How to Enable the Bloomberg Excel Add-In on Lab Computers

Why the Bloomberg Tab Might Be Missing in Excel

If you're using Bloomberg on a shared lab machine, such as Hanlon Lab, you might notice that the Bloomberg tab doesn't show up in Excel, even though the Bloomberg Terminal is installed.

This happens because the Excel add-in is configured per user account. It won’t load automatically for new users who log into the machine for the first time.

But don’t worry, installing it is quick and easy. Here’s how.

Step-by-Step: Install Bloomberg Excel Add-In

1. Locate the "Install Office Add-Ins" application

  • First, close all instances of Excel before you install anything.
  • Click the Start menu.
  • Type Install Office Add-Ins in the search bar. Click Install Office Add-Ins

2. Launch the add-in installer

  • A pop-up window will appear (see below).
  • Click Install and wait for it to complete.
  • It may not install all the profiles on the first try. Run it again if you see an error. If you continue to encounter errors, please talk to a lab assistant.

3. Reopen Excel

Once installation is done:

  • Close Excel if it’s already open.
  • Reopen Excel, the Bloomberg tab should now be visible in the ribbon.

If it still doesn’t show up:

  • Try restarting your computer, or
  • Right-click Excel → Run as administrator
