Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system (EDGAR)
Containing millions of company and individual filings, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system (EDGAR) benefits investors, corporations, and the U.S. economy by increasing the efficiency, transparency, and fairness of the securities markets. All companies, foreign and domestic, are required to file registration statements, periodic reports, and other forms electronically through EDGAR.
You can start searching for information collected by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) here. The SEC provides this tutorial for you to learn how to use EDGAR. Searches can locate a specific company, or you can filter by state, Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code, and/or other identifiers to find multiple companies.
The new EDGAR advanced search page offers a more minimalistic design to help you find your desired information.
Historical records of filings are called EDGAR Indexes, and go as far back as 1994/1995.
You can also learn about the forms that companies have to fill out here.
