During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hanlon Financial Systems Center offered a remote access option to Bloomberg terminals due to restricted access to campus. However, with easing restrictions and students returning to campus, remote access to Bloomberg terminals will be gradually phased out over the next few weeks.

On-Campus Access to Bloomberg Terminals

With remote access ending, in order to access a Bloomberg Terminal, students must use computers in the Hanlon Financial Systems Labs.

Hanlon Lab I is located on the 4th floor of Babbio Center, and offers 11 computers with terminal access, including one podium computer for instructors. Computers with terminal access in Hanlon I have white Bloomberg stickers on the back of monitors and color-coded keyboards.

Workstations in Hanlon I were recently upgraded with top-of-the-line CPUs, GPUs, and monitors. Read this post to learn more.

Hanlon Lab II is located on the 1st floor of Babbio Center, and offers 12 computers with terminal access, including one podium computer for instructors. Computers with terminal access in Hanlon II have white Bloomberg monitors and color-coded keyboards.

All Stevens students and faculties are able to use the labs from Monday to Friday 8am-9pm during the academic semesters. At least one lab assistant will be available during this time to help all students and faculties with facilities and possible questions. During the academic year, some classes are held in the labs. In order to see the schedule of these classes or open hours of the lab, please check the Hanlon Lab Calendar page here.

Creating a Bloomberg Terminal Login and Accessing a Terminal

If you already have a Bloomberg Terminal account, simply open Bloomberg on a computer with terminal access in either of the Hanlon Labs and login as usual.

Note: If you have not logged into your Bloomberg account for 90 days, it has likely been automatically deactivated. To reactivate your account, call Bloomberg customer service at (212) 318-2000. You will need to verify that you are a current Stevens student.

To create a Stevens-associated Bloomberg Terminal login and to access a terminal through a computer with terminal access in either of the Hanlon Labs, follow the steps listed in this article by Bloomberg, "How to Create a Bloomberg Login." The procedure is also listed below.

  1. Double click the Bloomberg icon on the computer desktop.
  2. Click on the blue link "Press Enter or <GO> to Login" and then on "Create a New Login."
  3. Answer the questions and fill in the relevant information on each page. Provide your current phone number(s) and email address. Bloomberg will require you to provide both a Company/Work Number and a Mobile Number; you can use the same number for both.
  4. Send an SMS text or an automated call with a verification code to validate your newly created login.
  5. After successfully creating your login, return to the login screen and login using your newly created Login Name and Password.

If this is your first time using a Bloomberg terminal, it may be helpful to watch this introductory video and read this "Getting Started" guide by Bloomberg.

In addition, after logging in you can type "HELP" in one of the Bloomberg windows and press "Enter" to reach the Getting Started with Bloomberg page. Hitting the <HELP> key once on your keyboard while on any Bloomberg screen will open the Getting Started with Bloomberg page in a separate tab.

You can also hit the <HELP> key twice to instant message the 24-hour Bloomberg Help Desk about Bloomberg-related issues.
